Protecting Your Privacy
We understand that the details you provide us are private and personal. We take the security of your information seriously. Our policies on handling personal information are designed to ensure your information is protected under Australian privacy laws. We are committed to abiding by the Australian Privacy Principles for the protection of personal information, as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and other applicable legislation.
Personal Information
In this policy, ‘personal information’ means information from which your identity is reasonably apparent, including information or opinions about you. This may also include credit information used to assess your eligibility for finance, such as details of your outstanding finance, repayment history and any defaults.
When you make an enquiry through this website — for example, by submitting our loan assessment form, our contact form, or our footer enquiry form, or by booking a chat — the personal information we collect typically includes:
- your first name and last name;
- your email address and phone number;
- where you use the loan assessment form, an indication of the property price you are planning for and the amount you need to borrow; and
- any message or details you choose to give us about your first-home-buying plans.
If you go on to apply for finance through us, we may collect further personal information at that stage, which may include your date of birth, residential address, account details, occupation, employment details, dependants, and proof of your income and expenses.
Why We Collect Your Personal Information
We collect your personal information so that we can:
- contact you about the first-home-buyer enquiry you have made through this website;
- assess your eligibility and borrowing options and, where appropriate, help you with a finance application; and
- manage our relationship with you.
When you submit your details through any of our enquiry forms, you consent to us contacting you about your enquiry by phone, email or SMS.
How Do We Collect Your Personal Information?
Where it is reasonable and practical to do so, we collect personal information directly from you — in the case of this website, from the details you enter into our enquiry forms or provide when you book a chat. Where relevant to a finance application, we may also collect information from finance brokers, accountants, lawyers, lenders and other relevant parties, with your knowledge.
Is Information You Provide Us Disclosed?
We will not share the personal information you provide through this website with third parties without your consent, except where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
Where you proceed with a finance application through us, your personal information may be disclosed to:
- prospective lenders, funders or intermediaries in relation to your finance requirements;
- our aggregator, Specialist Finance Group, which provides us with lender accreditation, compliance and software services and through whose systems your application may be processed;
- organisations involved in managing or administering your finance, including third party suppliers, printing and postal services, and call centres;
- companies that provide information and infrastructure systems to us;
- your representatives, such as finance brokers, lawyers and accountants;
- anyone where you have given your consent;
- anyone where we are required or authorised to disclose by law, including disclosures required under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth); and
- identity verification services.
Before disclosing any of your personal information to another person or organisation, we will take all reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that the recipient has a commitment to protecting your personal information at least equal to ours, or that you have consented to the disclosure.
Direct and General Marketing
We may use your personal information to provide you with information about finance, offers, changes to our organisation, and new products or services. If you do not wish to receive marketing information, you can opt out at any time.
You can withdraw your consent to being contacted at any time by replying STOP to an SMS or by emailing us at [email protected]. We will not charge you for giving effect to your request and will take all reasonable steps to meet your request at the earliest possible opportunity.
Updating Your Personal Information
We consider it important that the personal information we hold about you is accurate and up to date. During the course of our relationship with you we may ask you to tell us if any of your personal information has changed. If you wish to make any changes to your personal information, please contact us. We will generally rely on you to ensure the information we hold about you is accurate and complete.
Access and Correction to Your Personal Information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you at any time. We will respond to your request within a reasonable time, usually within seven days, though where information held by other entities is involved further investigation may be needed. Fees may apply to cover the cost of retrieving and supplying the information to you.
In some circumstances we may not be able to give you access — for example, where doing so would relate to existing or anticipated legal proceedings, or where the request is vexatious. If we deny access, we will tell you why.
If you believe the personal information we hold about you is incorrect, inaccurate or out of date, you may ask us to correct it. We will provide an initial response within seven days. Where investigation is required, we will provide details of any correction within 30 days. If we are not able to make the correction, we will tell you why.
Using Government Identifiers
We do not use or disclose government identifiers such as tax file numbers except as required by law, and we never use them solely to identify you.
Doing Business Without Identifying You
Where it is lawful and practicable to do so, you may deal with us without identifying yourself — for example, when making a general enquiry about a scheme or eligibility. To have us call you back about a finance enquiry, however, we do need your contact details.
Sensitive Information
We will only collect sensitive information about you with your consent. Sensitive information includes information about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, memberships of political, professional or trade associations or trade unions, sexual orientation, criminal record, or health.
How Safe and Secure Is the Personal Information We Hold?
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information by storing it securely. Your information may be held in electronic or paper form. We will take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Overseas Disclosure
Some of the information technology systems we, or our service providers, use may store data in cloud services located outside Australia, or may involve disclosure to overseas entities that provide support functions. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information continues to be handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
